One in ten Americans have used an online dating site or mobile dating app themselves, and many people now know someone else who uses online dating or who has found a spouse or long-term partner via online dating. I think the term online dating is part of the problem and makes people who dont know much about it think it refers to people forming entire relationships online and only meeting in person much later.

Over 40 million Americans have given online dating a try, and over a third of the American couples married between 20 met online. One in five online daters have asked someone to help them review their profile. The results in this report are based on data from telephone interviews conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International from April 17 to May 19, 2013, among a sample of 2,252 adults, age 18 and older.
